Rideau River

We saw a BEAVER and a CHIPMUNK and DUCKS and PIGEONS today. No really, a beaver. It was awesome. The pigeons were nuts. We had some peanuts that we broke up and they'd fly down and stand on your hand/arm and peck away; it was great. We were debating on bringing the camera along on the DAY TRIP but decided against it, which was too bad. We got as far as Hog's Back Park but it looked like it was going to rain so we turned around. We saw the beaver across from the Billings Bridge Plaza Shopping Centre, ALL OF WHICH YOU CAN FOLLOW ON THIS MAP (the bike path goes across the bridge to the north then follows the river south)!

Ottawa Bluesfest

I was looking through the performer list for the Ottawa Bluesfest this evening and saw Feist played on Saturday. I would not be what one would call a rabid fan (I only know one song), but it would have been interesting enough to go see her. Granted my knowledge of the blues is limited but based on what I do have and the descriptions on the website, here are some other acts I would potentially be interested in seeing:

• KC’s Boogie Blast starring KC & The Sunshine Band, Gloria Gaynor (!!!), Tavares and Sister Sledge featuring Kathy Sledge (July 16)

Looking through the list there are a ton of bands/singers Cheryl would love seeing. TOO BAD SHE IS IN EUROPE INSTEAD

Oh yeah! And I talked to Paul Shannon today! He is a librarian and doing well for himself! It was great to talk to him and we will get together soon.

Formosan/Taiwan Dog 台灣土狗

I did a little research on Nina today. For the longest time I had just assumed she was a mix between whatever, maybe a little German Shepherd or Doberman or something, but when I took her to the vet the guy told me she was a beautiful purebred dog, and that some people would pay good money for a dog like her. I kind of shrugged it off until my grandma mentioned recently they were looking up dogs to see if they could find exactly what breed of dog she is and came across an entry in the encyclopedia about the 'Taiwan' breed.

I guess there's not a certain set taxonomy or something in English because I came across the breed being listed as both 'Taiwan Dog' and as 'Formosan', which is six of one, half-dozen of the other. Either way, it is most definitely what Nina is.

I even got it down to what type of Formosan she is. There's apparently three major strands: Taiya, Bunon, and Plain. Interestingly enough, the aboriginal village we went to visit in Taidong was a Bunon tribe, and also where Nina started out!

I am even more curious about whether or not she is an actual purebred now too; it seems they are not so easy to come by at all. Reading about the differences between mixes and pures it seems like she is, but if that one guy searched 10 years to find four of them, I kind of doubt it. Maybe she's "close to pure".

First Post

So I am thinking of running this new blog for stuff that happens on recommendation of my super hot brother, Chad. I can't see myself posting too often or too regularly, but we will see what happens. I wanted to keep it as a seperate entity from GET GOT TAIWAN because that is Taiwan. And this is Canada. Maybe I should call it Get Got Canada.

It is going to be called SUPER SUPAU, named after the second best drink in the world (next to Qoo) from VITALON. If you see this and it's still the cheesy Blogger template, it just means I haven't done a new layout for it. If it is AWESOME, then I am finished.
